Trudy

“I spent a majority of my own childhood years exploring the woods and waterways around our home in Greenville Michigan, and my teenage years enjoying all that the Sonoran Desert of Arizona has to offer. That connection to nature has been an integral part of my life, and I am passionate about fostering that same love of nature in our next generation. I graduated from Western Kentucky University in 2010, with a degree in Elementary Education. Since then I have taught Pre-K, Kindergarten, online ESL, and substituted in many different classrooms. I was also a Den Leader for several years while my son, Colton (12) was involved with scouts. I strongly believe that education involves more than just academics. As an educator I believe it is also my role to guide students in their social and emotional learning, help them  cultivate perseverance and motivation, and guide students as they discover their own potential and passions! When I am not teaching, I also run a small cut flower farm at my home, and am an avid gardener, forager, and mycophile!”

Nicki

Nicki Meier is a trained facilitator and teacher and believes that education either indoctrinates you into the status quo or teaches you to think critically and transform the world around you. She is passionate about working within a transformative approach to education that

centralizes play, adventure, and independence and is nature based. Nicki has a Master’s of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus in Trauma & Resilience in the Classroom. She currently works part-time for Purdue University teaching Women’s & Gender Studies courses remotely. In the past she has spent years teaching ceramics to youth of a broad age range living in an emergency shelter, and has also facilitated support and education groups for survivors of domestic violence and LGBTQIA+ youth, as well as for their parents. Being mindful of cultural differences and each person’s individual struggles is something that’s really important to Nicki when creating a safe learning environment.

Two of Nicki’s passions are plants and pottery! She runs a pottery business out of her home and grows as many houseplants and edible plants on her property as possible. Nicki and her partner have a dream of creating what they call a permaculture wonderland, and are slowly working on that with their very active 2.5 year old kiddo.
